Él caminaba bajo la luz de las farolas de la calle vacía.
Ella bailaba al ritmo de unas notas pegadizas entre una multitud de cuerpos sudorosos.
Su mundo era silencioso y oscuro. Con manos invisibles que amenazaban con ahogarle.
El de ella, ruidoso y lleno de luces de colores que parpadeaban. Con manos muy humanas que deseaban tocar cada trozo, visible o no, de su piel.
Él hizo una llamada cuando giró la esquina.
Ella salió del sofocante ambiente para respirar el aire puro justo cuando su móvil sonaba. La voz del chico descolocó su mundo.
Él le habló de cosas que creía no querer oír, pero que revolvieron su interior de una forma que no entendió.
Ella le esperó en la fría noche.
Él condujo a su encuentro sin importarle si los semáforos se ponían en ámbar.
Ella se montó en el coche y se dejó llevar carretera abajo.
La música rellenaba el silencio que había entre ellos. Ninguno de los dos se preguntaba si aquello estaba bien o mal. Sus manos se encontraron cuando él fue a cambiar de marcha. Entrelazaron sus dedos sin más.
Pertenecían a mundos distintos, sus vidas eran tan dispares que sus sentimientos no serían adecuados. Nunca conseguirían que funcionase. Pero en ese momento parecía que nada de eso importaba. Solo eran dos personas que conducían sin un rumbo fijo en mitad de la noche.
Ella recordaba los rumores que contaban sobre el joven que tenía enfrente.
Él parecía ignorarlos todos.
Nada de lo que había oído cambiaba su forma de verle.
Él detuvo el coche sobre la colina.
Ella tuvo que tragarse esas dudas repentinas.
—Nunca estaremos juntos —le recordó cuando él se deshizo de su cinturón.
—Lo sé. —Pasó uno de sus brazos por detrás del asiento. Era casi como si la abrazase—. Por eso quiero proponerte algo.
Ella no habló. Esperó a que continuase. Se perdió sin querer en sus ojos, en el universo que él mismo había creado en su interior.
—Destruyamos el mundo, tú y yo, juntos. Acabemos con todo para que podamos ser solo nosotros dos.
Ella sabía que había algo oscuro ensuciando su alma. No quería saber de qué se trataba.
A él no le importó desnudar su ser ante ella.
Apretó su mano y le sonrió. Nunca le había tenido miedo y en ese mismo instante tampoco.
—Hagámoslo, destruyamos todo hasta que solo queden cenizas de lo que una vez fue.
—Y nosotros estaremos enteros, rotos, pero enteros, con un futuro mucho más brillante que el de ahora.
Ella aprovechó para acercarse y saborear sus palabras.
Él encontró en sus labios la seguridad que necesitaba para creerse lo que él mismo había dicho.
La noche fue la encargada de recoger sus promesas. Las atesoró durante el mayor tiempo que pudo, quiso atrasar los segundos, pero, por mucho que lo intentara, no lo consiguió. Los dos eran conscientes de que, con los primeros rayos de sol, todo desaparecería, que tendrían que ocultarse y volver a sus miserables y monótonas vidas. Si se encontraban, se ignorarían. Si se pensaban, lo mantendrían en secreto. Si oían a amigos hablar de ellos, fingiría no estar prestando atención.
Al menos tendrían el recuerdo de aquella noche en la que se prometieron ver el mundo arder.
Al menos sabrían que sus móviles volverían a sonar en una de esas llamadas nocturnas.
